Basic 3-6-9 Spare System: Moving Left

Scott Pohl
Duration:   2  mins

Description

For beginner and intermediate bowlers, the 3-6-9 spare system is a great way to quickly get lined up to make spares on both sides of the lane. In this free video, Scott Pohl, owner of On Track Pro Shop, teaches right handed bowlers how to make the 3, 6, and 10 pin consistently.

In order for this spare system to be effective, you must be lined up and constantly hitting the pocket. Kaley Triske is lined up utilizing board 25 on the approach and targeting the 2nd arrow.

Moving Left 1

It is called the 3-6-9 system because that is how many boards you will be moving with your feet to the left to make the 3, 6, and 10 pins from your strike shot, using the same strike target.

Moving Left 2

You can use your strike ball or a plastic spare ball with this system.

3 Pin

Located just right of the headpin, the 3 pin requires right handed bowlers to move 3 boards to the left on the approach, while throwing at the same strike target on the lanes to convert this spare.

Moving Left 3

6 Pin

The 6 pin is located next to the 3 pin and it requires right-handed bowlers to move 6 boards to the left on the approach, while utilizing the same strike target to convert this spare.

Moving Left 4

10 Pin

The 10 pin is located next to the 6 pin and it is the farthest pin on the right-hand side. Right-handed bowlers will move 9 boards to the left on the approach to make the 7 pin, while using the same strike target on the lane.

Hi, Scott Pohl here with the National Bowling Academy. And what we're looking at is for beginners out there that want to learn how to have a spare system for themselves. There's a very simple one out there. It's called the 369. Let's look at when we have spares to the right hand side we're gonna move our feet to the left. Use the 369 system. Let's get out on the lanes. First of all, it's very important that you are lined up to hit the pocket consistently. Otherwise, the system does not work. What we want to do is make the three pin. This is actually the pin that is one to the right of the head pin. Well, how are we gonna to do this? First of all, from our strike target we're gonna stand three boards to the left with our feet. Keep the same strike shots and make the three pin. Next up we have the six pin. This pin is one to the right of the three pin. So what we're gonna do is move our feet six boards to the left and use the intended strike target and make the six pin. Next is the 10 pin. This pin is one to the right of the six pin. What we want to do is move our feet nine boards to the left. Use the strike target and make the 10 pin.
